Early Monday Morning

11 Apr

After chocolate con churros and a coca-cola at El arca de Noe in old-town Gijon, Angel (a Jovellanos teacher), Mrs. Kelley and I walked back to our flat. We left the pub at 11:35 and made it back by 12:11 in the morning. Along the way of the beachside promenade, we passed runners, dogwalkers, kids and adults, all out on a Sunday night in a spectacularly safe city. We are very lucky to have the opportunity to exchange with these two schools, with this town.

Tomorrow (Monday) we travel to Oviedo, capital of Asturias, to meet the regional president and to tour the town. Tuesday will feature a trip up into the mountains to see the lakes at Picos de Europa, a wee scamper down to the Virgen de Covadunga shrine, then a drop to sea level to visit the port village of Ribadesella.

Saw news of the earthquake in Spain, but looks to be at the other end of the country. Hope there is no effect in Madrid when they return for their home flights on Thursday.
